What is the Medicare Prescription
Drug Benefit?
The Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit is the newly
created Medicare Part D. The benefit will begin
January 1, 2006. The sign-up period began November
15, 2005 and ends May 15, 2006.
What about those enrolled
in Medicaid?
Persons already enrolled in Medicaid will automatically
be enrolled in a prescription drug plan (PDP) if
they do not choose a plan on their own. You may
visit our Pharmacy to help you decide the plan best
for you.
What happens if I am a Medicare
beneficiary and I don’t enroll in a plan before
May 15, 2005?
A permanent penalty will be imposed for those enrolling
after the deadline. (1% per month)
Is there an annual deductible
and monthly premium?
An annual deductible is $250.00 and the monthly
premium is approximately $32.00. After the deductible,
you will be responsible for 25% of drug cost up
to $2250.00 (not including your monthly premium).
After $2250.00, you will be responsible for 100%
of drug costs until $3600.00 in out of pocket cost
is reached. You will then be responsible for 5%
of drug cost.
